The Poak Chops dance originates from the song of the same name, by Tamechi, which debuted in the spring of 2008. The Poak Chops music video was filmed in Tamechi's home state of North Carolina and features locals dancing to the lyrics, "gotcha dancin like, gotcha movin like, gotcha shakin like a go go girl...shake ya poak chops, work ya ham hocks, throw them butta beans, you just a country dream." The dance includes shaking, rocking, and gyrating hip movements, accompanied by hand gestures to the hips and thighs coordinated to the lyrics. In particular, during the phrase "throw them butta beans", dancers may, with their fists in front of their hip bones, extend all of their fingers out straight while rocking their hips to one side and then the other, as if casting butter beans from their hips! genre: Hip Hop tags: chop, ham, hocks, poak, shake originator: Tamechi region of origin: North Carolina made popular by: Tamechi similar dances: Ratchet, Rock Yo Hips, Pop Lock and Drop It lessonsSee all “Poak Chops” lessons »
