The Robot is an illusionary dance style, composed of movements that are very sharp, rigid and rely on heavy use of Locking techniques. Though the Robot shares much in common with Locking and Popping styles, it is distinguished by its specific pantomime of a humanoid robot.
Robot performances often include imitations of malfunctioning or broken robots. To create these illusions, the dancer may incorporate small jerk-like movements separated by freezing moves. Freezing with an upper arm held parallel to the ground while the forearm swings back and forth is a characteristic move.
