This is a training and employment program led by Yoram Savion, media arts instructor, and Kash Gaines, media arts assistant, at the Youth UpRising community center in East Oakland, CA.

This program is designed to teach young people how to develop a critical eye towards the media they consume on a daily basis and learn how to use new technologies to produce their own media, with their own voice, their own messages, through diverse forms of creative self-expression.

Students learn professional photography, audio/video production and web content creation in order to become youth multimedia producers.

YU Media-LP is also offering the YU Cypher FREE class taught at Youth UpRising every semester.

Age: 23

Yoram Savion is a recent graduate of UC Berkeley and is currently working full time at Youth UpRising as a media arts instructor leading the YU Media-LP program and teaching the YU Cypher class. Yoram is a journalist, artist and educator. Current projects include producing youth-led multimedia stories for the Oakland Tribune and Alameda County Behavioral Health Services website.

Kash Gaines is a student at CSU East Bay. Kash was a student in the YU Media-LP program Summer 2007. Due to his amazing talent and commitment to the work, he is now working part time at Youth UpRising as a media arts assistant instructor. He is a dancer, poet and multimedia producer. Current projects include photography collage experiments, music videos and TURF dancing videos.

Yoram and Kash led a team of youth media producers and dancers to create the "RAW TURF" photo/video mural about TURF dancing currently on display at the Oakland Museum of California as part of the Cool Remixed exhibit May 17th - August 17th 2008.
